This amendment was important to the founding fathers. Americans resented the British quartering soldiers in private citizens’ homes back before Independence. Therefore, they enshrined our freedom from quartering in the Constitution.

Amendment III
No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.
