
Today’s Amendment is, as you know, constantly embroiled in controversy. Which arms need to be beyond the right to bear because they are the ones that infringe on the Constitutional right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for groups of people like school children or crowds at concerts?
The Militia was essential to our success in the War for Independence, of course. Although our militia these days is the National Guard. Also, arms are part of American life for many who hunt or feel they need to carry to protect themselves.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
